It was a fantastic experience going to Jewel Changi Airport, after a long, long wait since its opening!
The long, endless walkway to it from Terminal 1 was itself very majestic and heightened my anticipation and excitement with every step forward. The exterior appearance of Jewel Changi and the Crowne Plaza is in itself a marvel, I realized, as I took in the view of the gem that fits not one finger but thousands of people every day. I then set foot into Jewel for the first time, brimming with excitement!
Jewel Changi has become so popular and successful of course due to its heart or "kidney" - the 40-meter high indoor waterfall HSBC Rain Vortex, whose presence radiates away far beyond. It is no surprise, therefore, that the first thing I did was to head in the direction of the sound of water thundering down 40 meters, with my heart in my hands. And boy, was it love at first sight? It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen - a powerful artistic creation portraying both beauty and unmasked danger.
It was almost like being back next to Niagara. It gives me great pleasure to compare Singapore's arguably greatest artistic creation with one of nature's wonders in the same sentence. Such was the view and experience of being underneath an inverted dome funneling water down its center through a monumental height to make it vanish into the bottomless pit of a vast crater.
The most extraordinary experience I had happened in the first few minutes. While I was finding a space to take a selfie, a couple asked me to take a photo of them. Hence, I got ready and when I was about to click, the entire vortex changed from white to purple. It was just mind-blowing! The couple was overjoyed seeing their background transform!
See for video I then met up with my friend, Muruga, who had been awaiting my presence for 2 hours very patiently, and we started combing the complex for nice places to eat.
After a few quick looks, overcoming a strong urge to go for A&W or Pizza Express, we decided on a sumptuous dinner at So Pho.
I ordered vegetable fried rice while my friend Muruga had a chicken and fish ‘Pho’ noodle soup, which brought nostalgic memories to him of his previous times in Vietnam. This soup is beneficial for health reason. What was even more beautiful was the chance to enjoy the beautiful façade of the Rain Vortex, though we could not see the light show from the base of the waterfall and had to wait for the next one.

After our dinner, we went to see what else but the Vortex again (looks like a giant jellyfish, right?)!
for video We also took a walk around the mesmerizing Shiseido Forest Valley.
We explored more shops and walked up to the floors, biding our time till the next light show at 10.30pm.
The view from the terrace leading to the Canopy Bridge was just breathtaking!
As Muruga put it, the people who work at Jewel Changi, especially the terrace, are fortunate as their life is entwined with nature. It is a welcome relief from the stress that accumulates from sitting in an artificial environment, in front of a computer all the time. Muruga pointed out that the parapets were low for the Canopy Bridge looming over the tree park and that people who are not careful may just fall down with no supporting net. I guess we'll just have to be more careful then!
After that, we had the privilege of seeing the much-awaited light show! (See for video )
I went once more in the day, this time with another friend, and it was a completely different experience but the beauty was not diminished one bit!
You can bet that I will be going again after the 10 June to check out the numerous wondrous attractions that will be opening! They will be charging us this time so we have to head there at least with S$100 each if we want to see all the attractions like Canopy Bridge, Manulife Skynets and the Mirror & Hedge Mazes!! Does anyone want to join me? Do ping me! :)
